Verena Rodríguez
I’m a Mexican author, illustrator, and designer currently based in Santiago, Chile.
I hold a BA in Design and Visual Communication from the UNAM and I’ve taken several illustration courses, including one at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City. In 2019 I successfully graduated from the MA in Children’s Literature at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
My illustrations have been published in textbooks for Editores Mexicanos Unidos and CIDCLI in Mexico and in the online magazines Este País and Metamorphosis.
I was selected as one of the 2021 #PBParty finalists where I found my agent, Alyssa Eisner Henkin of Birch Path Literary. I was also a Hermana mentee in the Las Musas Mentorship program for fall 2021.
In 2023 I illustrated CLOUDBREAK, the 4th issue in The Thirteen Origins series, published by Chispa Comics, an imprint of Scout Comics. It will be published in May 2024.
I illustrated PI: Una autobiografía infinita (PI: an infinite autobiography), written by Andrés Navas and Mahsa Allahbakhshi and published by Planeta de Libros Chile in March 2024.
In my free time I enjoy cooking and baking, playing video games, D&D, and, of course, reading. I love stories that combine a strong female lead with fantasy, romance, and drama.

I’m 1000% a cat person.
I play D&D
When I was a baby I was almost kidnapped by a circus monkey.
I speak English, Spanish, and French and understand basic Italian and Swedish. I just like learning languages.
I’ve never ever been stung by a bee.
